School Self-Evaluation at Mercy Secondary School, Kilbeggan
School self-evaluation is a collaborative, inclusive, and reflective process of internal school review. It involves gathering information from a range of sources, and then making judgements about practice and about how well pupils and students are doing. The key focus of school self-evaluation is to bring about improvements in pupils’ and students’ learning.
Self-evaluation requires a school to address the following key questions with regards to an aspect or aspects of its work:
How well are we doing? 😎
How do we know? 🤔
How can we find out more? 🧐
What are our strengths?🎖️
What are our areas for improvement? ⚠️
How can we improve?✅
Since 2012, MSSK has reflected on and made improvement plans for a number of areas of our practice including Literacy, Numeracy and Assessment for Learning.
After the Covid19 Pandemic, there was a period of time to reflect on and plan for the impact of lockdowns and restrictions on teaching and learning.
Recently, schools and centres for education were asked to include wellbeing promotion as a focus for their School Self-Evaluation (SSE). This should involve the development, implementation and review of wellbeing promotion in their schools, which includes tracking impact. During the 2024/2025 school year, we are focusing on reviewing Wellbeing at MSSK.
